In my classes this week we'll be continuing our 7 Week Chakra Series with the third chakra: The Solar Plexus Chakra. Chakras are energy hubs throughout the subtle body that correspond to different areas on the spine. When these focal points are fully-functioning, energy can flow though us with ease.
Our Solar Plexus Chakra is just below the rib cage, or about three fingers above the belly button. The Sanskrit name is Manipura. It is said that this Chakra is like a magnet, attracting Prana or energy from the cosmos. When the Solar Plexus Chakra is balanced you will feel powerful, confident, and like your truest and best self. The bija (seed) sound for this chakra is "Ram."
In honor of the Super Bowl this weekend we’ll be playing with different variations of eagle pose: In my Yin and gentle classes we'll be taking a restorative Garudasana using props, while in my vinyasa classes we'll be working a transition from our eagle pose > half moon > standing split > handstand hops > vinyasa ✨(say that five times fast).
To balance your Solar Plexus Chakra this week, join me for a fire meditation at home:
Come into a seat on your shins with a blanket or mat underneath of you. If you desire you can tuck your toes for a seated toe-stand (if this become uncomfortable, gently release to the tops of your feet or come to and easy cross legged position). Sit up nice and tall through the spine as you inhale your shoulders up by your ears, on your exhale, draw your shoulder blades together down your back. Bring your right hand into a fist and release the thumb upwards, like a little candle. Wrap the left hand around the base of the right hand and draw your hands to the space between your belly button and ribs. Picture your thumb as a flame and imagine yourself breathing in a powerful yellow light. Feel this warm candle light spreading from your right thumb and continuing through the core and all the way through your extremities. Quietly say this week's mantra: "I have the courage to follow my heart,” or alternatively “I can.”Following our heart, or our inner light, allows us to stand in our personal power and live in alignment with our truest self. Continue to focus on that candle glowing brightly, using the breath: in and out. Gently release your hands and press off to the side, sending your legs long in front of you. Bounce your knees and notice the sensations of your feet and legs, feeling like a kink in a hose has been released as blood begins to flow naturally. Take this little fire you’ve lit and carry it with you for the remainder of your day. :)
